Histopathological evidence of Balantidium coli in a she-buffalo

B. coli was detected in the mucosa, mucosal glands and submucosa of the intestine of a buffalo in Reddipalli, India, which died after a prolonged illness. Hyperplasia of the villi and heavy infiltration of mononuclear cells, eosinophils and plasma cells in the mucosa were observed. The submucosa showed oedema with proliferation of lymphoid tissue.
