Histopathology of 'Sekiten-byo' caused by Pseudomonas anguilliseptica in the European eel, Anguilla anguilla L., in Scotland

Histopathology of 'Sekiten-byo' caused by Pseudomonas anguilliseptica in the European eel, Anguilla anguilla L., in Scotland

Journal of Fish Diseases 6(1): 77-79

Eight diseased eels were examined. They had petechial haemorrhages in the skin, particularly noticeable on the unpigmented ventrum, and the epidermis was sloughed over extensive areas. When the epidermis was present, it was detaching from the basement membrane, below which the superficial collagen was haemorrhagic and oedematous and, where the epidermis was lost, exposed dermal collagen was haemorrhagic and necrotic.
