Three breeding programmes are described, which have involved the use of interspecific hybridization in Manihot in order to incorporate resistance to cassava mosaic virus. In a review of research, information is included on the genetics of resistance to Xanthomonas manihotis and cassava mosaic virus. Clone 58308 has also been used in breeding lines with low cyanide content in the roots.
