Holiday taking and socio-economic status in Australia

Holiday taking and socio-economic status in Australia

Leisure Studies 2(1): 31-44

This paper tests the influence of socioeconomic status on three indicators of leisure: holiday taking as a measure of actual leisure behaviour, and recreational aspirations and expectations as indicators of the activities people prefer. The findings show that people of different socioeconomic status aspire to the same forms of leisure behaviour. There are, however, systematic and consistent differences related to socioeconomic status in holiday taking and leisure expectations.
