Holstein-Friesian (HF) heifers imported onto the Polish state animal breeding centre at Osowa Sien from North America in 1974-1977 were larger than similar Polish Black-and-White Lowland cattle, gave on average 22.1% more FCM in the 1st 305-day lactation, and had a faster av. milk flow rate, 2.28 vs. 1.24 kg/min. Av. milk yields of HF heifers born and bred in Osowa Sien were not significantly different from those of imported heifers.
