Honey as an additive to the extenders for preservation of buffalo semen

17 ejaculates from Murrah buffalo bulls were used to compare the effect of addition of 1, 2 or 4% honey to a Tris-citric acid diluent with that of adding 1% glucose, 1% fructose or 0.5% glucose + 0.5% fructose. In the 6 diluents resp., more than or equal to 60% live spermatozoa was maintained for 168, 120, 96, 120, 96 and 120 h, the difference between the 1%-honey diluent and the rest being significant. Similarly, a motility score of 3 was maintained for 144, 120, 72, 96, 72 and 120 h.
