Hormonal control of fertility in sheep. 10. Preliminary results on the use of norgestomet in subcutaneous MDD implants

Hormonal control of fertility in sheep. 10. Preliminary results on the use of norgestomet in subcutaneous MDD implants

Annali della Facolta di Agraria, Universita di Bari80 1983; 31: 301-312

In spring, 150 adult ewes at 150 days post partum and 65 ewes aged 15-16 months, representing 5 and 3 genetic groups resp., were treated with an MDD implant containing norgestomet or with a vaginal sponge containing FGA, followed by 400 IU PMSG. All females came into oestrus within 12-44 h of treatment. Among adults, the av. interval to the onset of oestrus was significantly longer in Cher Berrichon X Apulian Merinos given norgestomet than in Sardinian ewes given norgestomet (30.5 vs. 28.0 h).
