Hormonal control of fertility in sheep. 3. Early reproduction in Apulian Merino ewe lambs through the use of progestogens and PMSG

Hormonal control of fertility in sheep. 3. Early reproduction in Apulian Merino ewe lambs through the use of progestogens and PMSG

Annali della Facolta di Agraria, Universita di Bari80 1983; 31: 133-150

Of 98 lambs aged 61/2 months (av. body weight 26.9 kg) and observed twice daily over 27 days in the presence of teaser rams, none came into oestrus. They were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 was given for 14 days an intravaginal sponge containing 40 mg FGA, and group 2 an implant of 3 mg SC 21009 (norgestomet) for 12 days. All females received 400 IU PMSG at sponge/implant removal. Overall, 96.9% of females came into oestrus.
