Hormonal control of stolon and tuber development, especially in the potato plant

Hormonal control of stolon and tuber development, especially in the potato plant

Strategies of plant reproduction Invited papers presented at a symposium held May 17-20, 1981, at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center BARC, Beltsville, Maryland 20705: 181-195

Axillary bud development into a stolon in potato was promoted by high gibberellin levels in association with a degree of apical dominance. Experimental induction of stolons in a decapitated plant was achieved with either IAA or GA3. Stolons were converted into orthotropic leafy shoots by cytokinin application to the stolon tip. Tuberization was promoted in leafless cuttings of short-day-induced plants of Solanum andigena.
