Hormonal sex reversal in females of the unisexual form of crucian carp

Hormonal sex reversal in females of the unisexual form of crucian carp

Ontogenez 13(3): 235-242

Gynogenetic fish were given methyltestosterone in the feed at 30 or 60 mg per kg feed, for 50 days beginning 5 days after the start of active feeding. Of 15 and 14 fish treated at the 2 rates resp., the number that became males by 2 yr of age was 15 and 13. For matings of triploid, sex-reversed males with triploid and diploid females , fertilization rate of ova (with range in brackets) averaged 30.0 (8.3-53.7) and 31.8% (19.5-70.5) resp.
