Host plants of Pseudococcus maritimus (Ehrhorn, 1900) and possibilities of control

Novenyvedelem 19(5): 202-206

In studies in Hungary since 1972 on the pest of glasshouse ornamentals Pseudococcus maritimus (Ehrh.), the mealybug was found 149 times in botanical gardens, glasshouses, horticultural enterprises and apartments; 24 species of plants in 19 families were attacked. Damage occurred most often on Aglaonema modestum; the plants at first showed yellowing and stunting and later died. In the laboratory, the mealybug colonised tomato plants 1 m from infested ornamentals.
