Host selection by Asobara tabida Nees (Braconidae; Alysiinae) a larval parasitoid of fruit inhabiting Drosophila species. II. Host species selection

Host selection by Asobara tabida Nees (Braconidae; Alysiinae) a larval parasitoid of fruit inhabiting Drosophila species. II. Host species selection

Netherlands Journal of Zoology 32(2): 194-214

The host-selection behaviour of Asobara tabida (Nees) was studied in experiments in which the parasite was offered a choice between equal numbers of larvae of Drosophila melanogaster Mg. and larvae of 1 of the following species: D. busckii Coq., D. funebris (F.), D. immigrans Sturt. and D. subobscura Collin. It was found that the percentage parasitism of a given host species increased with the survival probability of the parasite in this species.
