Host suicide and superparasitism: implications in field sampling

Host suicide and superparasitism: implications in field sampling

MAPPS Newsletter 7(1): 4-5

Some aspects of parasitism that influence the evaluation of biological control of pests are discussed. These are 'host suicide', in which a host may use its own death to increase its inclusive fitness by lowering the parasite attack for other members of its own species, and superparasitism, which may also result in non-emergence of the parasite.
