P. noxius caused major degradation of non lignified tissues and light alterations of xylem on inoculated rubber seedlings. The pathogen secreted high levels of pectinase and cellulase and a polyphenoloxidase (laccase), which are involved in the infection process. R. lignosus, on inoculation, secreted the same enzymes, but hydrolytic activities were much lower than the laccase activity, especially in the xylem.
