How protozoa evade intracellular killing

How protozoa evade intracellular killing

Annals of Internal Medicine 98(6): 1016-1018

Three mechanisms which may explain how certain protozoa are able to accomplish intracellular parasitism are considered: (i) parasites are innately resistant to the phagocyte antimicrobial responses; (ii) they avoid triggering this response during ingestion; (iii) the target macrophage itself is intrinsically deficient in killing capacity.
