How to feed a clover-grass mixture -- fresh or wilted?

Tierernahrung und Futterung Erfahrungen, Ergebnisse, Entwicklungen 12[Hennig, A; Laube, W; Risch, MEditors]: 266-270

A cut red clover-grass mixture (70-80% clover) was wilted for 1, 2 or 3 days. DM losses with and without turning were 540 and 340 kg/ha, resp., at day 1 but 570 and 500 kg/ha, resp., at day 3. Corresponding CP values were 77, 105, 125 and 123 kg/ha, resp. Over the 12 wk trial period the mean DM intake was 12.17 kg/cow day compared with 12.54 kg for the control group (fresh clover-grass mixture).
