Giardia lamblia, spontaneous killing in vitro by mononuclear leukocytes (MNL) from healthy uninfected individuals, cell responsible for this effector function is monocyte or macrophage, cytotoxicity against G. lamblia could be inhibited by adding Trichomonas vaginalis which suggests that this may be general mechanism of host defense against extra-cellular protozoa, G. lamblia induced nonspecific MNL cytotoxicity to unrelated target cells
