Human intestinal coccidiosis in Chile: infections by Isospora belli and Sarcocystis hominis (I. hominis)



Boletin Chileno de Parasitologia 36(3/4): 49-53



Examination of faeces from 55 421 patients seen by private physicians or at outpatient clinics in Santiago, Chile, from 1963 to 1979, revealed I. belli oocysts in 452 (0.8%) and I. hominis sporocysts in 389 (0.7%). The cases are analyzed with respect to annual and monthly occurrence. Males were more frequently infected than females.
