Immune response of pigs to inactivated foot and mouth disease vaccine (diethylaminoethyl (DEAE)-dextran (D) adjuvant vaccines)

Three inactivated vaccines prepared from a porcine type C virus of local origin were compared. Both formolized vaccines increased serum neutralization titres at 21 days after vaccination (range 1.26-2.74 and 0.76-3.00). Titres were undetectable before vaccination. Six pigs vaccinated i/m with one formolized vaccine were completely protected from challenge by contact with infected pigs 28 days after vaccination. Serum neutralization titres were not affected at 10 days after challenge.
