Insect and mite pests of cultivated mushrooms - an overview of the arthropod pest problems of the Eastern Hemisphere

Insect and mite pests of cultivated mushrooms - an overview of the arthropod pest problems of the Eastern Hemisphere

Chinese Journal of Entomologyrecd 1(1): 1-9

The author gives an overview of arthropod pest problems of cultivated mushrooms in the Eastern Hemisphere. The major pests include cecidomyiids, phorids, sciarids, springtails and mites. Cecidomyiids (notably Heteropeza pygmaea Winn. and Mycophila speyeri (Barnes)), which are the commonest pests, reproduce rapidly by paedogenesis under favourable conditions, and their damage can greatly reduce the quality of the canned product.
