Absorption, transport and assimilation of N were studied in 12-day-old seedlings of winter cereals grown at air temp. of 25 deg C in culture sol. at 25 or 12 deg. At a root zone temp of 25 deg , nitrates were absorbed more intensely than ammonium and were quickly translocated to the leaves and stored in a non-reduced form. At 12 deg , absorption and transport of nitrates was slower and that of ammonium faster than at 25 deg.
