One-hour blood xylose in the diagnosis of cows milk protein-sensitive enteropathy

Archives of Disease in Childhood 57(1): 40-43
One-hour blood xylose in the diagnosis of cows milk protein-sensitive enteropathy
The 48 infants with diarrhoea suspected of being due to intolerance of cow's milk were maintained for 6 to 8 weeks on diet free from lactose and cow's milk protein. Jejunal biopsy and 1-h xylose absorption test were performed before and 20 to 24 h after the infants had been given cow's milk. After the milk 30 of the infants had clinical, enzymological and histological relapse; 6 had enzymological and histological relapse but clinically they tolerated cow's milk.
