Pig improvement using number born alive

Pig improvement using number born alive

Proceedings of the Third Conference, Australian Association of Animal Breeding and Genetics, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, July 9-11, 1982: 183

The h2 of number of live piglets per litter, using data from a commercial piggery, was 0.2. The number of live piglets per litter was negatively correlated with the min. temp. at or immediately before the date of service. During the period when min. daily temp. around the date of service was >20 deg C, the number of live piglets per litter was up to 2.1 lower than than during other periods of the study.
