Production of basic and concentrate feed mixes in feeder mixer wagons and their use in dairy cattle production

Mixing methods (flow and batch mixers), operating conditions and mix quality are discussed. Power requirements and methods to determine mix quality for feeder mixer wagons are covered, together with types of feed used in relation to mixing systems. Systems operating with a stirrer, mixing screw or scraper chain gave a good mix quality for maize silage and concentrates, whereas systems with a fixed screw gave less favourable results.
