Investigations on acetylcholinesterase as the target of organophosphorus and carbamates insecticides in arthropods are reviewed, together with cases of resistance resulting from reduced sensitivity of acetylcholinesterase, studies on the way in which that sensitivity is altered, the properties of 'normal' and 'altered' acetylcholinesterase and the relationship between reduced sensitivity of acetylcholinesterase and the level of resistance.
