Results of qualitative and quantitative investigations on the behaviour, production and physiological and anatomical status of laying hens under different types of management (runs, floor or cages)

Results of qualitative and quantitative investigations on the behaviour, production and physiological and anatomical status of laying hens under different types of management (runs, floor or cages)

Data obtained over several years on 2304 hens, housed in runs and on the floor at a density of 6 or 9 hens per m2, or in cages containing 4 hens and allowing 480 cm2 floor space per hen, were analysed. Type of management had no significant effect on egg production, but significantly fewer eggs were lost in cages than in runs or on the floor.
