By using a thin polyethylene sheet sticking to wet soil in the hot season for at least 4 wk, temps. of 44 deg -57 deg C can be reached at a depth of 5 cm, and of 36 deg -45 deg at 20 cm. Higher temps. are possible with PVC. Verticillium wilt of tomato, eggplant and potato, Fusarium wilt of tomato, cotton and onion, corky root of tomato and some basal rots can be effectively controlled by this method.
