For 546 Landrace, 652 Large White and 421 Duroc litters, piglet weight gain from birth to 21 days of age averaged 3.76, 3.79 and 3.35 kg resp., and litter gain 34.50, 36.20 and 28.26 kg (both P<0.01). The correlation of litter size at birth with litter gain was 0.38, and that with piglet gain was -0.30. The correlation of piglet gain with piglet birth weight was 0.15, and that with litter birth weight was -0.20.
