Spacing, pruning and planting systems for sweet and sour cherries

Spacing, pruning and planting systems for sweet and sour cherries

Gradinarska i Lozarska Nauka 19(1): 8-15

For optimizing cherry production sweet cherry trees should be spaced at 6.5-7.0 X 5.0-6.0 m, with trunks of medium height (0.8-1.0 m) and spherical or elliptical crowns, or should be spaced at 4.5-5.0 X 2.5-3.0 m, with short trunks (0.4-0.6 m) and be pruned and trained by the hedge system. For sour cherries 5.0-6.0 m X 4.0 m spacing, 0.8-1.0 m high trunks and spherical crowns, or 5.0 X 3.0 m spacing, 0.6-0.8 m trunks and elliptical crowns are recommended.
