Response to 15 pathogenic strains of 13 physiological races of Pyricularia oryzae belonging to seven groups was determined for 21 resistant varieties and 22 hybrid lines in 1980. In the Ken group of varieties, Toride 1 and 2, which carry the Pi-Zt gene, had the broadest spectrum of resistance and a high resistance response. In the BL group of varieties, which have the Pi-b gene, BL7 and BL2 had the best resistance.
