A comparison of drought avoidance and drought tolerance in the 2 species which grow naturally under very different conditions: todo fir is deeply rooted and flourishes in thick fertile soil on SW slopes and ridges with other species, while spruce is shallow-rooted and grows on special sites such as swamps and lava flows apart from other species.
