The control of Pinus pinaster in the fynbos biome

The control of Pinus pinaster in the fynbos biome

South African Forestry Journal (123): 3-7

Based on earlier trials of herbicides for thinning-to-waste in plantations, extensive field trials were made on their use to eliminate naturally regenerating Pinus pinaster in the interests of nature conservation. It is concluded that for dense stands the best method of elimination is felling and burning, as is already standard practice. For scattered trees herbicides are more efficient.
