The effect of fineness of cutting of wilted grass silage on intake and the milk production of dairy cows

Italian ryegrass (1st trial) and perennial ryegrass (2nd trial) were ensiled after wilting and cutting to 5 or 22 mm or using a self-loading waggon with 3 or 21 knives for the 2 trials resp. In Latin square design trials with 3-wk periods the fine, coarse and long silages were offered to 12 and 15 cows resp., with concentrates according to silage consumption and milk yield.
