The possibility of making use of particular characteristics of seedlings in breeding spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Seven physiological and morphological features were measured in five-day-old seedlings of the 27 parental varieties of 16 crosses investigated, and seven features of mature plants (mainly yield components) were recorded in the F1 and F2 populations. The correlation between the sum of the mean values of all the seedling characters recorded in each parental pair and the sum of all the characters measured in mature F1 and F2 plants derived from it was high.
