The possibility of predicting yields of the F1 and F2 generations of spring wheat by laboratory methods

Assessments, based on similarity coefficients calculated from 12 yield components and yield-related characters, of the genetic divergence between the members of 15 parental pairs chosen from among 23 varieties agreed well with those based on differences in electrophoretically determined gliadin spectra. The correlation between the results of either form of assessment and F1 yield was high (r > 0.9) and the regression functions could be used for purposes of prediction.
