Although women in Tanzania are the backbone of the economy it appears that researchers and planners in the country proceed from the assumption that either agricultural producers are all men or that the problems that women face are insignificant. Indifference to the problems of women who are the food producers in Tanzania, has been contributory to the country's failure to achieve its policy objectives of self sufficiency in food.
