The weight of the newly emerged honeybee queen as an index of its potential productivity

The weight of the newly emerged honeybee queen as an index of its potential productivity

Bulletin of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Cairo 29: 91-111

In a study of Carniolan queens in the Giza region, Egypt, the weight of a queen at emergence (E) was significantly (positively) correlated with her weight at the start of oviposition (V). The number of ovarioles and of spermatozoa in the spermatheca, and the diameter of the spermatheca, were positively correlated particularly with E, and also with V.
