Groups of 12 chickens were fed two doses of either chlortetracycline (110 and 440 mg/kg of feed), chloramphenicol (110 and 400 mg/kg of feed), rifampicin (40 and 80 mg/kg of feed) or amoxicillin (200 and 400 mg/kg of feed) for three weeks. Faeces were taken weekly and bacteriological examinations performed. E. coli biotypes were identified by fermentation and enzymatic reaction patterns. Antibiotic sensitivity tests were performed on all E. coli isolates.
