Transient effects of moisture sorption on strength properties of paper and wood-based materials

During desorption and absorption of moisture, ligno-cellulosic materials show transient changes in mechanical properties, notably a temporary decrease in stiffness (MOE) and an increase in creep. The transient effects are of practical importance for building and packaging materials, such as particleboards, hardboards, and linerboards, especially in calculating safety levels for mechanical loads.
