Abstract
Grain of the six-rowed variety Otra and the two-rowed Ingrid was treated for 24 h with 0.005 and 0.01% aqueous solutions of N-nitroso-N-methylurea (NMU) and 1,4-bisdiazoacetylbutane (DAB). The variation in protein content was greater in both varieties in the M3 than in the control. In Ingrid the increase in variation was associated with a higher frequency of low-protein families, while in Otra, especially after treatment with 0.01% NMU and 0.005% DAB, an increase also observed in the percentage of families with a higher protein content than in the control.
