Slovakian Merino (SM) ewes (North Caucasus Mutton-Wool and Romney Marsh rams mated with Czech Merino ewes) were mated with North Caucasus Semifinewool (NCS) rams. For 50 SM and 40 NCS X SM rams born in 1976, fleece weight at 10 months of age averaged 5.78 and 5.57 kg resp., clean wool weight 2.83 and 3.01 kg, fibre diameter 25.4 and 28.0 mu m (P<0.001), and body weight 58.04 and 56.83 kg. For similar groups of males born in 1977, fleece weight at 10 months averaged 6.06 and 5.85 kg, clean wool weight 2.98 and 3.19 kg, fibre diameter 24.14 and 26.68 mu m (P<0.001), and body weight 71.3 and 67.9 kg.
