A mathematical model of 14C migration in foliate woods on peaty-podzolic soils

Soviet Journal of Ecology 1984; 14(3): 159-163

The mathematical model is presented in the form of a series of differential equations for a type of broadleaved forest ecosystem common in the USSR and for a long-term atmospheric source. Numerical values of the parameters (coefficients) are tabulated on the basis of published data on the transformation of organic matter. The time taken to accumulate 50% of the equilibrium content of 14C ranges from <1 month in foliage to 1250 yr in the lower (A2B) humus layer.
