A preliminary study on the genetic stability of wild-abortive type sterile cytoplasm in rice

Substitutional backcrosses (SB) of the male-sterile (MS) line V41A, using IR24 as the recurrent parent, were carried out. In the SB5 (wIR24 SB5) and SB7 (wIR24 SB7) restorational backcrosses (RB) were carried out by crossing with the maintainers V41B and Zhenshan 97B. RB-MS lines RB-V41A and RB-Zhenshan 97A, which showed no significant differences in pollen fertility from non-RB-MS lines V41A and Zhenshan 97A, were obtained in the RB2 and RB3, respectively.
