A simple method to induce sporulation in Helminthosporium turcicum incitant of leaf blight of maize

H. turcicum grown on media containing grain extracts of maize, sorghum, barley or wheat, or leaf extracts from a susceptible maize, sporulated best on the maize leaf extract, leading to the suggestion that the reaction of cultivars to pathogens might be successfully assayed by testing for sporulation on media containing host extracts.
