Adsorption of nitrates by soil

Adsorption of nitrates by soil

Soviet Soil Science 14(5): 71-77

The adsorption of nitrates in the plow horizons of different soil groups in the Udmurt ASSR was studied. The adsorption of nitrate nitrogen increased with increasing concentration of the added nitrate solution in accordance with Langmuir's equation. The extent of adsorption depended on the cation composition of the added nitrate. Increasing the amount of adsorbed nitrate nitrogen affected the charge of soil colloids.
