During a study carried out in New York State, the aerial dispersal of crawlers of Quadraspidiotus perniciosus (Comst.) within the apple tree canopy and between trees was shown to be positively correlated with the seasonal abundance of crawlers on the bark. Airborne crawlers were significantly most abundant within the upper portions of the canopy and in the nort-east and south-east quadrants.
