Alternative technology and economic assessment of weed control in wetland rice

Because the introduction of fertilizer-reponsive early-maturing semi-dwarf rice has made early and timely weed control highly critical for good yields, various methods of weed control in rice are reviewed. Chemical control and hand weeding are compared for effectiveness in S. and SE Asia, while the different requirements of transplanted and direct-sown rice are noted.
