Amino acids were determined with an amino acid analyser in hydrolysates of protein from colostrum and milk taken from 3 Holstein-Friesian (HF), 3 Hungarian Pied (HP) and 3 HP X HF cows in the 1st 25 days of lactation. Av. content of essential amino acids/100 g protein decreased from 45.6 to 42.3 g during this period. HP had the highest and HF the lowest values for essential amino acids. After 3 days of lactation amino acid composition differed little from that of normal milk.
