Basic studies on the development of superior strains of Japanese beef cattle. 1. Preweaning growth of Japanese Black linecross calves

Data on birth weights, preweaning daily gains and adjusted 180-day weaning weights were analysed for 222 Japanese Black (JB) bull and 220 JB heifer calves of 4 lines (Hyogo, Tottori, Okayama and Hiroshima) and their crosses. Sex of calf, season of birth and age of dam had significant effects on all 3 traits.
