Owing to the economic importance of beet yellows virus in France, a field technique was developed for testing insecticides against its vector, Myzus persicae (Sulz.). The aphid was reared in the laboratory during the winter on beet plants infected with yellows and released on 3 dates in May and June, at the rate of 2 apterae/beet plant on 8 plants/row in each of 6 rows.
